TransContainer organized the first fast block train with petrochemicals in specialized rolling stock

The first direct fast block train departed from Salavat (Kuybyshevskaya Railway) to Kotka (Finland) on February 12, 2020. The train which consists of 114 tank-containers loaded with petrochemicals will cross the border at Buslovskaya station of Oktyabrskaya Railway.

This service is a result of proactive cooperation between PJSC TransContainer Branch at Kuybyshevskaya Railway,  SpecTransContainer LLC and Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat. Trilateral cooperation between the companies  supposes transportation of 6000 tons of petrochemicals a month in a seamless round-trip to Finnish port of Mussalo, one of the biggest cargo hubs of Finland and Baltic region.

“New transport project will provide a synergetic effect: the customer will enjoy speed and cost improvement, Russian Railways will reduce use of infrastructure facilities, operators will optimize equipment operations and rolling stock turnover,” Alexey Bulytov, head of PJSC TransContainer Branch at Kuybyshevskaya Railway, says.

Two or three trains will be dispatched to Finland every month and their number will grow up to four or five trains in future.

“Realization of the project opens good possibilities for further development of transportations in tank-containers especially for directions leading to ports. Among advantages of this type of rolling stock there are multimodality, possibility to make a transshipment on a truck not wasting additional time,” – Boris Borisov CEO of SpecTransContainer LLC notices.

TransContainer considers possibility to organize transportations by fast block trains with tank-containers heading to ports of Azov and Black seas where there is a developed terminal network for chemicals transshipment and further export transportation.
