TransContainer Launches Regular Transportation of Coal in Open Top Containers from Irkutsk Region to China

PJSC TransContainer of Delo Group develops its network of the routes for Transportation of coal in Open Top containers and launches regular train from Batareinaya station (Irkutsk Region) to Manzhouli station (Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China). The transit time is three days.

TransContainer arranges service on the RZD network and handing at Zabaikalsk border-crossing point; transportation over China between Manzhouli station and destination point in Heilongjiang province is performed by a Chinese partner. The first train loaded with 90 TEU of coal from Kharanut coal mine was delivered to Manzhouli on March 10.

‘Increase of volume of the coal transportation in Open Top containers is a part of PJSC TransContainer’s initiative on increasing the list of cargo transported in containers. The service offered by our company allows to improve the coal export logistic. We are planning to perfect the technology on the looped route Batareinaya – Manzhouli – Batareinaya in order to start dispatching the trains on a weekly basis,’ said Kirill Kudryavtsev, Director of PJSC TransContainer branch at Zabaikalskaya railway.

TransContainer started to transport coal in Open Top containers in January 2021. Now we offer regular transportation from Priargunsk station (Zabaikalsky Krai) to Zabaikalsk border-crossing point. Seven trains of 721 TEUs in total have been dispatched by this route since the beginning of 2021.

Coal transportation in containers allows to decrease burden on the railway infrastructure by reducing the time spent on the rolling stock handing at border-crossing points and increasing the delivery speed. Absence of necessity to transship the cargo to rolling stock of narrow gauge solves the problem of frozen coal causing the wagons to idle at stations for several days in winter. At the same time most consignors have equipment necessary for loading coal into Open Top containers, therefore there are no major differences between technologies of coal loading in high-sided wagon and the one of coal loading in containers.
