JSC TransContainer and MSC sign a cooperation agreement

On April 26, 2011, within the framework of the 16th international exhibition and conference on cargo transportation, transport and logistics TransRussia, a cooperation agreement was signed between JSC TransContainer and Mediterranean Shipping Company, MSC.

Cooperation with MSC allows JSC TransContainer to offer even better service due to the presence of a large number of containers in the ports of departure, which ensures timely delivery of the consignor by them, and also makes the general logistics scheme of transportation more flexible. Strategically, the emergence of such a partner as MSC opens up opportunities for OJSC TransContainer to promote multimodal services on a global scale due to the wide geography of the presence of a line carrier.

Since its inception, MSC has shown rapid growth in all key indicators: the volume of containers transported, the number of vessels under management, as well as their container capacity. Currently, the MSC operates 444 container vessels with a total capacity of 1,925,000 TEUs. As of the end of 2010, MSC had transported more than 12 million TEUs.

JSC TransContainer is a leader in intermodal container traffic in Russia. The company owns about 60% of the Russian rolling stock fleet for container traffic and provides 52% of container traffic by rail and 34% of terminal container rehandling in Russia.  JSC TransContainer operates over 24,000 well cars, almost 60,000 containers and owns a network of 46 railway container terminals in Russia, as well as operates a terminal in Slovakia. The sales network of JSC TransContainer has about 150 offices in Russia, the company is present in the CIS, Europe and Asia markets. The Company’s shares are traded on MICEX Stock Exchange and RTS. Depositary receipts of JSC TransContainer are traded on the London Stock Exchange. The largest shareholder of the company is JSCo RZD with a stake of 50% + 1 share. 

MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) is a private company that is the second carrier in the world in the field of line container traffic. The owner of the company is Gianluigi Aponte, an Italian businessman, the company is headquartered in Geneva. MSC is one of the few line carriers capable of offering a worldwide shipping service. Currently, the company has more than 300 ports of call and more than 200 direct and combined weekly line services.
