OJSC TransContainer has developed a logistics chain for the delivery of goods from Russia to the Republic of Armenia via the land border crossing Verkhny Lars

JSC TransContainer continues to develop its door-to-door cargo delivery service to the countries of Transcaucasia. The company, together with the agent in the Republic of Armenia, APAVEN LLC, has developed a multimodal logistics chain for the delivery of goods from Russia to the Republic of Armenia and in the opposite direction through the land border crossing on the Russian-Georgian border Verkhny Lars-Kazbegi.

On May 19, 2010, the first two 20-foot containers arrived in Yerevan from Omsk, which followed the Russian railways to Vladikavkaz. At the terminal of JSC TransContainer in Vladikavkaz, containers were loaded onto motor vehicles and sent further through the Verkhny Lars border crossing to the destination. Along the Georgian Military Road, containers drove at an altitude of more than 2,000 meters above sea level.

The transit time for containers on the route Omsk-Vladikavkaz-Yerevan is 19 days, which is three weeks less compared to similar traffic through the ports of the South of Russia.

“The organization of container traffic through the Verkhny Lars border crossing has important economic and political importance for the development of partnership relations between Russia and Armenia. According to preliminary analytical estimates, the cargo turnover in this direction at the first stage will be about 200 TEUs per month, and then it will only grow, which will also lead to revitalization and strengthening of trade and economic relations between the two countries. For JSC TransContainer, this is another significant step in the development of the range of services provided, especially in the multimodal transportation segment. In addition, the successful implementation of this transport solution allows considering new alternative ways of transporting goods to the Middle East, including Iran, with the provision of a full range of freight forwarding services, including delivery to the customer’s warehouse,” Anatoly Kolobkov, director of branch of JSC TransContainer on the North Caucasus Railway, commented on the event.

For Information: The border crossing through the Russian-Georgian border “Verkhny Lars-Kazbegi” resumed operation on March 1, 2010 in accordance with the agreement on the resumption of the movement of goods and vehicles through the checkpoints “Kazbegi” (Georgia) and “Verkhny Lars” (Russia), reached in Yerevan on October 28, 2009.
