The West Siberian branch of PJSC TransContainer is developing a new route to China

The first trial consignment (31 containers) was dispatched from the Kleshchikha station through the Makhalino – Hunchun border checkpoint in February. This route can become a regular service, which, like the route through Zabaikalsk – Manchuria, will directly link Russia and China.

Since August 2018, transportation through Makhalino (Kamyshovaya) - Hunchun Russian-Chinese checkpoint amounted to approximately 3 million tons of cargo. As at January 31, 2019, 939 TEUs were transported. Thus, this railway border checkpoint has reached the limit of capacity. As Chinese party assured transit volumes in along this route will increase.

Given the growth dynamics of transit through Makhalino – Hunchun checkpoint JSCo RZD is starting to implement an investment program for reconstruction of the border checkpoint, as well as develop railway infrastructure near it, which in the future will allow transport up to 8 million tons annually.

As part of the One Belt, One Way program, the Chinese Railway also expressed interest in developing this project, following which in 2019 the party allocated subsidies for development of this border checkpoint.
