angle-left null JSC TransContainer and СRIMT Establish New Joint Venture in China

The formal opening of the Russian and Chinese joint venture, «Rail Container», a new international rail container operator, took place in Beijing on December 6, 2010. JSC TransContainer (49%) and China Railway International Multimodal Transport (СRIMT), which owns a 51% share in the joint venture, are the founders of the new entity.

This has resulted from the consistent implementation of JSC TransContainer’s strategic plans relating to the geographic expansion of its business and to increasing its container transportation volumes. The project will help the Company to strengthen its position in transport logistics markets of the Asia-Pacific Region and efficiently develop services on prospective container routes.

The joint venture will provide a full range of transportation and logistics services relating to container cargo transportation along China-Russia and China-Europe railways using terminals and logistic centers in China and Russia. The development of transportation through Manzhouli-Zabaikalsk and Alashankou-Dostyk border crossings is the top priority of the project.

One of the main objectives of the new joint venture is to organize marketing events focusing on switching to railway container cargo transportation that normally was carried by other means of transportation. Within the next few years the joint venture is expected to become a leader in the sector of container cargo transportation along the China-Russia railway route.

The fully paid share capital of the joint venture is 400,000 USD and consists of monetary contributions of its members. The aggregate amount of joint investments is 2 million USD. The anticipated payback period is 5 years.

“The recovery of the world economy is accompanied by an increase in cargo traffic between Russia and China. The market needs fresh logistic decisions, which we are planning to implement through the new joint venture established together with our Chinese partners. We think of this project as being well-timed and cost-effective”, said Yury Yuriev, Strategic Planning Director of JSC TransContainer.

JSC TransContainer is the largest Russian company specializing in intermodal container transportation and integrated logistic decisions. The Company operates around 25,500 container flat-cars, on which around 1.1 million TEU was carried in 2009 and 0.55 million TEU in the first half of 2010.

China Railway International Multimodal Transport (СRIMT) is a subsidiary of China Railway Container Transport Corp. (CRCT).
