On behalf of Latvian Railways, the memorandum was signed by President Edwin Berzins, from – PJSC TransContainer, General Director Petr Baskakov acted as a signatory.

“Diversification of transported goods and the development of new target markets is one of the most important strategic goals of the Latvian Railways. The successful cooperation with the Chinese Railways and PJSC TransContainer during the organization of a test container train from China this fall indicates that the achievement of these strategic goals is absolutely realistic and the partnership that has begun should be strengthened. The Memorandum signed today with PJSC TransContainer will become the basis for further cooperation, and I am convinced that, in the near future, it will result in the regular movement of container trains between China and Latvia,” said Edwin Berzins, President of the Latvian Railway.

“For us, this cooperation is really important, firstly, joint work will allow us to offer our customers convenient service for the delivery of goods from China to European countries. We have already tested it and the project has shown decent results. Negotiations are underway with potential customers to organize container train runs from China on a regular basis. Secondly, this opens up opportunities for the transport of imported goods through Latvian ports to Russia and, in general, expands cooperation prospects. The document signed today will contribute to the further development of container traffic, both by Latvian railways and Russian railways,” said Petr Baskakov, General Director of PJSC TransContainer.
