OJSC TransContainer organized a regular container train from a new terminal in the port of St. Petersburg

JSC TransContainer continues to increase short run cargo flows in the direction of St. Petersburg-Moscow.

Today the first container train departed from the terminal of the Fourth Stevedoring Company CJSC (FSC, part of the Sea Port of St. Petersburg group) in the Big Port of St. Petersburg to the Moscow-Tovarnaya station of the Oktyabrskaya Railway.
Rail shipment of 76 20-foot containers of the Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. (MSC) was carried out using 40 cars of JSC TransContainer.
It is planned that the train will regularly depart once a week on a specially dedicated train path. This type of service is provided in a round-trip on the route St. Petersburg-Moscow-St. Petersburg.

“The launch of this regular service was preceded by a lot of preparatory work. Currently, we are actively developing container train service from the terminals of the Big Port of St. Petersburg and have already reached a stable volume of traffic from the terminals of First Container Terminal CJSC and Petrolesport OJSC. Switching these shipments from road to rail has a positive effect on the situation with passing cars in ports, reducing the transport load on the St. Petersburg-Moscow highway,” commented Dmitry Morozov, Director of a branch of JSC TransContainer on the Oktyabrskaya Railway.
Railway shipments are made from the container terminal of FSC for the first time. In 2009-2010, a full-scale modernization of production facilities was carried out at the terminal, and to date, all technological equipment has been commissioned. The terminal’s production capacity is 345,000 TEUs per year.

Transportation of cargo of the MSC sea line in container trains of JSC TransContainer is carried out under a cooperation agreement signed in April 2011. The partners are convinced that the joint work will allow us to offer customers even better service. For JSC TransContainer, the emergence of such a partner as MSC opens up new possibilities for promoting multimodal services on a global scale, thanks to the wide geography of the presence of the line carrier.
