JSC TransContainer organizes container traffic from Italy to Russia through the Dobra terminal

OJSC TransContainer developed and organized a unique logistics scheme for container transportation of FIAT car parts from Italy to Russia. For the first time, these transportations are carried out without using sea transport and go through the terminal of TransContainer – Slovakia, a.s. in Dobra.

On May 29, 2010, the first train arrived at the container terminal in Dobra, following the new logistics scheme: from FIAT warehouses in the cities of Villanova D’Asti and Mozzagrogna to the Tikhonovo station of the Kuibyshevskaya Railway, where the car assembly plant Sollers Yelabuga is located. Earlier, since 2007, transportation of car parts from FIAT’s warehouses in Italy was carried out through the port of Novorossiysk, from there they followed the railway to Yelabuga (Tatarstan). However, with this scheme, the transit time for the delivery of goods from Italy to the plant in Tatarstan was about a month. When implementing the new scheme, the delivery time is reduced to 9 days. Thus, the use of the new railway route allows reducing the transit time of this transportation by three times, as well as providing the customer with high-quality service of JSC TransContainer at the terminal in Dobra. The forecast traffic volume will be 500 TEUs per month.

Recall that, in November 2008, in order to simplify cargo operations at the junction of European and Russian gauge railways, JSC TransContainer entered into an agreement on long-term lease of the Dobra terminal with ZSSK Cargo. The Dobra terminal plays a key role in the development of container traffic along the International Transport Corridor No. 5 (Italy-Slovenia-Hungary-Slovakia-Ukraine-Russia) and is of crucial importance in accordance with the project of JSCo RZD extension railway line with a 1,520 mm gauge to Bratislava and Vienna. The project was presented on April 7, 2010 in Bratislava by President of JSCo RZD Vladimir Yakunin during a visit by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to the Slovak Republic. According to Vladimir Yakunin, the project provides for the extension of the wide gauge railway from Kosice to Bratislava and Vienna. The goal of this project is to create a competitive direct rail link between European countries, on the one hand, and Russia and Asian states, on the other. The implementation of the project will eliminate the transshipment from European railway lines to a wide gauge. Thanks to this, the time for delivering goods from Europe to East Asia will be reduced by half from 30 to 14 days, and the release of working capital depending on the cost of goods will be from 100 to 1 thousand US dollars per container.

It should be noted that the project of JSC TransContainer on the organization of a railway route for the delivery of auto components from Italy continues the trend of providing the company with integrated logistics services for leading European auto concerns with assembly plants in Russia. At present, OJSC TransContainer is already organizing transportation of car parts from Europe for the Volkswagen and Peugeot Citroen car assembly plants in the Kaluga Region.
