TransContainer acquired another terminal in Zabaykalsk

The largest Russian container operator TransContainer (a Delo Group member) has completed the acquisition of facilities of Zabaykalsk International Terminal LLC (the second terminal) at Zabaykalsk station, which is a strategic inland crossing at the Russian-Chinese border.

The acquisition of the second terminal is a part of the realization of one of the Group’s strategic directions focused on assets development in key locations and building up a transport bridge between production and consumption centers.

The second terminal will be reconstructed for handling of containerized cargo and will be combined with the functioning one in a unified operational and production facility, which will ensure handling of cargoes moving to any directions. While the functioning terminal will use a “through” technology and will be focused on international and transit cargoes, the second one will be used for logistical support of local operations and declaration. After the reconstruction Group’s assets capacity in Zabaykalsk will reach 500,000 TEU by 2024.

Sergey Shishkarev, the Head of the Board of Directors of the Group, commented on the deal,“Zabaykalsk is one of the largest traffic points between Russia and China. We believe that enhancing our capacity at that key international trade and transit location match not just the strategy of the Group focused on providing customers with timely and quality service and increasing a share at the container transportations market but comply with the state interests in transit development and containerization. We expect that our efforts will give an impulse to enlargement of the railway infrastructure capacity and the capacity of the border crossing on site.”
