TransContainer expands its service for the Volkswagen concern

The General Director of OJSC TransContainer, Petr Baskakov, and the General Director of VOLKSWAGEN Rus, Mr. Friedrich-Wilhelm Lenz, have signed a supplementary agreement on the organisation of logistics at the Volkswagen plant in Kaluga.

This agreement supplements the agreement signed by the two companies in November 2007 on the transportation of components for the assembly of VW Passat, VW Jetta, VW Tiguan and Skoda cars from Kosice (Slovakia) and Mlada-Boleslav (the Czech Republic) to the Volkswagen plant in Kaluga.

“Under the new agreement, the loading and unloading of containers on the territory of the plant will be organised by TransContainer. We plan to provide integrated logistics services to the Volkswagen concern in the 3PL format, and this agreement marks the start of our work in this area,” Petr Baskakov said following the signature of the agreement.

He pointed out that OJSC TransContainer’s agency is currently open and functioning successfully at Kaluga station. “10 of our company’s employees are working at the agency, but we are about to increase that number to 50, with part of the office located at the plant so as to increase the effectiveness of our service. In the near future, the range of services to be provided to the automaker will be expanded: in particular, we will be coordinating all our loading and unloading work at the plant, will be handling paperwork, etc. In that way, our company will become integrated in the automobile manufacture process chain,” Petr Baskakov emphasised.

For Reference:

From the start of this year, TransContainer has transported around 17,500 TEU of freight for the Volkswagen project. The company’s partner in the project is the German company Schenker Automotive Railnet, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn AG.
