In 2008, fulfilling orders from Toyota dealer network, JSC TransContainer transported 708 45-feet containers loaded with car spare parts from Finland to Shushary (Leningrad Region). Total cargo volume was 1770 TEU.

«We have been transporting car spare parts to Shushary since November 2007», says Petr Baskakov, JSC TransContainer general director.

He added that freight for Toyota was carried by an express container train Kotka – St.-Petersburg launched by the company in August 2007. Its delivery time is 29 hours.

«We can say that it is this train’s capacities as well as our expertise in cargo transportation throughout the route that permitted us to attract such client as Toyota. Toyota people were not satisfied with one-time shipments and they were looking for a speedier and more regular way to transport their car part cargos. What they actually wanted was speed, and this is something we can guarantee because our trains are much speedier than one-time shipment transportation, let alone truck carriage, since our trains are never forced to lose time in traffic jam at frontiers», says Mr. Baskakov.

Thus, Toyota has become another car manufacturer using JSC TransContainer services in its car production operations.

The growing demand for the route Kotka – St.-Petersburg prompted the company to put into operation an express container train providing rapid and reliable transportation services for 45-feet container cargos sent to distances of up to 500 km. The project disproves the common belief that today railway transport can hardly compete with car carriage at distances of up to 1.5 thousand km. The train handling in Shushary is performed by Voshod customs terminal, which best equipped for handling 45-feet containers and is easily accessible to St-Petersburg consignees. In particular, the terminal is in the immediate proximity to Toyota works.
