TransContainer installed the first solar power plant at terminal in Rostov-on-Don
PJSC TransContainer has installed the first solar power plant at Rostov-Tovarniy terminal. The pilot project is aimed at increasing energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions and company’s OPEX.
The plant with a capacity of 63 kW constructed with Russian PV modules will produce green energy that covers up to 30% of the terminal’s annual consumption. Moreover, the solar plant is more convenient during its service than other types of renewable energy generation and it proves its effectiveness from the very plug in.
“Using solar batteries will help us to reduce carbon emissions by 25 tons annually. At present we are calculating the capacity of energy generation and if the payback period is appropriate we will distribute this project to other terminals of the company. We also evaluate prospects of using innovative hybrid photovoltaic and wind technologies which uses both solar and wind power for energy generation”, Andrei Banshchikov, vice-president – director for major construction and facilities maintenance of PJSC TransContainer noticed.
The project is being realized within the framework of the agreement signed with Unigreen Energy in November 2023. Unigreen Energy is the Russia’s largest private company working in the field of renewable energy. The parties have jointly developed technical requirements and solutions for using solar power at TransContainer’s terminals.
