OJSC TransContainer and TransGroup AS LLC begin building a terminal in the port of Zarubino

On 21 May, the General Director of OJSC TransContainer, Petr Baskakov, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of TransGroup AS LLC, Maxim Liksutov, signed an agreement on their intention to implement a joint project involving the construction of a container terminal in the port of Zarubino. The new terminal should allow container freight to be processed in the conditions of the growing export-import and transit freight traffic from Asia-Pacific countries via the Trans-Siberian Railway.

The agreement was signed at the III International Rail Business Forum entitled Strategic Partnership 1520, currently being held in Sochi. Vladimir Yakunin, President of OJSC RZhD, was present at the signing.

To implement the project under the agreement, TransContainer and TransGroup AS will set up, on a 50/50 basis, a joint venture to build and subsequently operate the terminal.

The terminal’s projected design capacity will be 400,000 TEU per year, and it will have an area of over 18 hectares. According to preliminary estimates, construction will take 5 years and will cost over $100 million.

TransGroup AS LLC has been managing the port of Zarubino since 2004. This warm-water seaport in the south of Primorsky Krai is located at the junction of the borders of Russia, China and South Korea and is a convenient sea gate for foreign trade freight of Russia, the North-Eastern provinces of China and Mongolia. At present, the port is a multi-functional sea terminal for receiving and processing large-tonnage sea-going vessels (length of berth – 650 m., passable depth for vessels – up to 12.5 m).
