JSC TransContainer has successfully tested grain transportation

JSCo RZD conducted an experimental check on the safety of the placement and securing of grain cargo in universal 20-foot containers and specialized containers for transporting bulk cargo. Tests conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Technical Conditions for the Placement and Securing of Goods in Railway Cars and Containers (TsM – 943 dated May 27, 2003) showed that the transportation of grain cargo in general purpose and specialized containers will ensure traffic safety, container and cargo safety.

The tests were carried out at the Moscow-Tovarnaya Station of the Oktyabrskaya Railway.
According to the data of United Grain Company OJSC, in 2008-2009, grain export volumes from the Russian Federation amounted to 20.8 million tons of grain, by 2019 it is planned to increase export volumes to 27.5 million tons.

The current grain transportation scheme, created in the context of the predominance of grain imports, limits export opportunities and reduces the competitiveness of Russian products on world markets. And the existing port facilities do not allow to handle in full the export flows of grain crops and products processed from them. The use of universal and specialized containers for transporting grain cargo will significantly reduce costs and increase the competitiveness of the entire export chain.
