The container train of JSC TransContainer with Hyundai car parts arrived at the Shushary station

OJSC TransContainer carried out multimodal transportation of car parts of the South Korean company Hyundai Motors from Busan to the Shushary station of the Oktyabrskaya Railway (St. Petersburg). A train of 50 40-foot containers arrived at its destination on March 7, 2011.

The implementation of this transport product was made possible thanks to the well-functioning technology of specialists of OJSC TransContainer working at all points of the route (central office, subsidiary in the Republic of Korea, branches on the Far Eastern and Oktyabrskaya Railway). The attractiveness of the project is a significant reduction in delivery time compared to sea transport. Transit time of transportation on the route from the South Korean port of Busan to the Shushary station was 17 days, while shipping by sea takes from 30 to 35 days. For a route through the territory of Russia – from the Nakhodka-Vostochnaya station to the Shushary station a train path with accelerated movement of container trains was designed and provided.

According to the General Director of JSC TransContainer Petr Baskakov, “the successful implementation of this product shows the quality and reliability of the service for the delivery of goods along the Trans-Siberian Railway. We offer transportation solutions for car assembly plants that can compete with sea carriers on the route from the APR countries to the north-west of Russia.”

Reliable and fast transportation along the Trans-Siberian Railway demonstrated the advantages of this route not only in comparison with sea transport, but also the economic benefit for the consignor in comparison with air transportation. These shipments meet two basic requirements of car manufacturers: reduction of warehouse costs and saving of current assets as a result of reduced delivery times.

The future plans of JSC TransContainer include organizing regular services and increasing transportation volumes for the Hyundai Motors assembly plant near St. Petersburg.

The success of this project is also intended to attract the attention of Japanese automakers, whose plants are located in the northwestern car cluster.
