OJSC TransContainer resumed transportation of goods from St. Petersburg to Moscow

Since May 2010, JSC TransContainer resumed the operation of container trains between St. Petersburg and Moscow, suspended in the crisis year of 2009. To date, three full-length container trains have been sent under this project using the flat cars of JSC TransContainer. The first train departed on May 9, 2010 from the First Container Terminal (St. Petersburg) to the Moscow-Tovarnaya station.

The service is carried out at the through tariff with subsequent delivery of cargo to the customer’s warehouse by motor vehicles of JSC TransContainer. Travel time on the existing train path is 18 hours. According to the company’s plans, in the next quarter, the frequency of this train will be increased up to two times a week. In the future, the train will become daily.
“The resumption of transportation on this short route, which has to face extremely fierce competition from truckers, is very important for the company. And we understand that competition can only be defeated if we have competitive rates and first-class service, which is exact we have offered to our customers,” commented Dmitry Morozov, director of branch of JSC TransContainer on the Oktyabrskaya Railway, about the launch of transportation.
Container traffic from St. Petersburg to Moscow was carried out by JSC TransContainer weekly for six months in 2008. In total over this period of time more than 2,500 TEUs were transported under this project.
